1983:  Muir College High School – Uitenhage, Eastern Cape, South Africa.

1984 - 1986:  Apprenticeship in Traditional Wooden Boat building at Thesen’s Boatyard, Knysna, South Africa.

Building from plans, setting up lofting patterns, basic hull design, study of timber, it’s grain and application, study and practical work on Carvel planked boat building. Lay-up and lamination of fibreglass and GRP Resin Boat Building. Manufacturing hollow tapered wooden masts up 52 feet long. Building hollow spoon blade oars. Building keel moulds and casting in lead.

1986 - 1993:  Lucky Bean Boat Yard Knysna with master boat builder, James Edwards.

Apprenticeship in Epoxy Saturation boat building techniques. Practical application of stripped-planked building and vacuum bagging. Ultra-light double diagonal cold moulded hull building. All forms of interior, cabinet making, joinery work, carpentry in yachts. Building various high performance multi-hulls.

1993 - 2000:  Haiku Wooden Boats, Knysna, South Africa

Building Japanese Cedar Canoes, rowing boats, other small craft and tenders. Practical application of Clinker-plank on frame and frameless Boat Building and lapstrake techniques.

2001 - 2014:  Set Building and Carpentry for the film industry working on various local and international film and television series productions. Chronicle, Long walk to freedom, Labyrinth, Black sails

2014 - 2020: Boat builder/Head carpenter at Vision Yachts, Knysna, South Africa
